Restock London Housing
Bee Breeders
Internation Architecture Competition

The RE-Stock London Housing Competition is part of Bee Breeders' Affordable Housing competition series. Run in partnership with ARCHHIVE Books and the Bartlett School of Architecture, this competition tasked participants with submitting innovative design proposals for mitigating the affordable housing crisis in London. It is the second competition focused on this city following the London Affordable Housing Challenge.

Affordable housing is open to a broader range of household incomes than social housing. Affordable housing rents vary, and are set either as a discount to the market rent or as a percentage of a household’s income. We are targeting ethnic groups in youth and small families. In order to meet the characteristics of flexibility.

CONCEPT

We imagined the entire building as a large variable building block, and users can choose how many units to rent. The walls, floors, bathrooms, etc. , have become a variety of “furniture” for selection. Such a building will be full of vitality because of various creative combinations.

We came up with a bold idea. Why don’t we just build it on a station? In this way, only need to find a suitable station. Only the distance and station characteristics need to be considered. This can reduce many troubles for the government. This is possible with London’s dense railway system. When it spreads throughout the city, it will become an interesting city symbol.
